Gas Fire Servicing

Our experienced engineers strongly recommend servicing opened flue fires (fires connected to a chimney) every 12 months due to the risk of a chimney blockage partially as a result of birds nesting in there during the spring and summer months.

Our gas fire servicing checklist includes:
Fully dismantling the fire
Checking for correct ventilation if needed
Checking the flue box for cracks
Checking the gas efficiency and testing any gas connections for leaks
Testing the chimney or flue with a smoke pellet
Cleaning the fire and checking burners for correct operation
Reassembling the fire

Gas Fire Repairs

At Ian Redfern Gas services we can quickly and efficiently repair most gas fires that have broken down, as long as replacement parts are available and as long as we think it is economical to do so. Our trusted engineers will always look for the most affordable solution to your problem. If we know that you are likely to save money on future repairs by replacing your old gas fire with a new one, then we will recommend you do so.

Opened Flue Fires

If your fire is connected to a chimney, then it is an opened flue fire. From our many years of professional experience our engineers strongly recommend servicing this type of fire every 12 months, as there is always a risk of a chimney blockage, particularly due to birds nesting in there during the spring and summer.

Balanced Flue Fires

Balanced flue fires can be fitted on outside walls, so they do not need a fan. They are usually found with wall heaters fitted in bedrooms or in halls, and are safe because they are room sealed. At Ian Redfern gas services we strongly recommend servicing balanced flue fires regularly, so that seals can be checked for leakage of products of combustion.

Power Flue Fires

If your house has an outside wall but no chimney, your fire is probably connected to a power flue (fan flue). This type of fire needs to have the fan started before the fire can light, making it safe to use. It is recommended that you have this serviced regularly to ensure it continues to operate safely and efficiently.

Important Safety Warning !

If your chimney becomes blocked, there is a serious risk that highly toxic products of combustion can become trapped and can escape from your fire into your home. Please refrain from using the fire and call Ian Redfern Gas Services to service it right away if it becomes blocked at any point.

Fires or wall heaters are fitted into chimney places or onto walls, and can come in the form of room sealed fires, open vented fires or coal effect living flame fires. If you have a coal effect fire, please check that you have your fire’s servicing instructions, so our trusted engineers can make sure its particular servicing needs are met.
